Welcome to the blog! If the banner doesn't make it obvious enough I'll just spill the beans and let you know that we are a full time husband and wife wedding photography team. We love life, God, weddings, and if you slide over our names to the left you'll note a few other things we love.

We are based out of Los Angeles, and when I say that, I mean our studio is right in the smack dab center of downtown. However, if you start browsing through the blog history you will soon note that we shoot weddings all over the country and world. We put a lot into making our images so I hope you enjoy checking some of them out!

If you're up for having a great time at your wedding, and our photos have the look you are going for, then feel free to shoot us a note and we would love to chat some more!

Amandalin & Kyle {Wedding Photos} Lexington, Kentucky

Big weddings are great. But you know what? Small weddings are great too! When Suzy and I got married, we got our pastor, collected the family, brought a friend with a guitar to make it extra fancy, and all walked out on the beach and got married. Afterwards we all went out to breakfast and then it was over. I LOVED it. Amandalin and Kyle’s wedding was very similar. Everyone met at the church, but we didn’t go inside. It was just a simple little ceremony in the courtyard right out front, and then on to a rented house for a buffet, a bit of cake and it was over. Mandy has been friends with Suzy since highschool, and I (Lukas) have gotten to know her a lot more since Suzy and I came together. So it was incredibly cool to watch her find Kyle, see them come together, and then get to be there for their wedding! Enjoy some of my favorite photos below!

Shoot & Share Photographer Meet-up | Los Angeles, California

Hello Friends,

For those of you out there reading who aren’t photographers you might not understand this. But then again maybe you will. Often as photographers you spend a lot of time going to other people’s events. You have a lot of fun, and you enjoy the whole process, but you really only know a few people. At weddings that’s generally the bride & groom, anyone else at the wedding you have photographed before, and maybe a few of the vendors. Then you go home and spend the whole rest of the week sitting in your room alone. Literally. You do post processing, accounting, answer emails, write blogs and a lot of other busy work. But for all of it you’re  by yourself.

For Suzy and I, we are really involved in our church, so we have a lot of community there, good friendships, moral support, spiritual mentors, and accountability. And that’s the best place to get those things.

But at the same time no matter how much they try, people that aren’t photographers just can’t understand the life of a photographer or the industry. When you work at home there is no water cooler to meet at and talk. So for photo related things you sometimes need something more.

That’s why last night was such an incredibly fun event! It was a group of 50 plus photographers all gathering to meet people, have fun with each other, and share their joys, trials, and excitement about the art and the photo industry! If you are a photographer and have been feeling alone, or are just unsure where to meet other photographer friends, than this is the place for you!

It’s a group called SHOOT & SHARE and it’s a great place to be! If you’re interested in future get togethers or just need a place to ask photographer related questions than join the Facebook Group HERE. Or you can check out this blog post I wrote with a little more in depth summary  about the community and how it all works!

Enjoy a few photos from the meeting last night as well!

Welcome to the world of Shoot & Share, PASS, Showit, Share Groups, UNITED & David Jay?

Hello Friend,

If the title of this post confuses you, don’t feel alone. It confuses a lot of people at first. But once you come to understand all the terms and the complete awesomeness of this community you will wonder how you ever survived life as a photographer without it.

There is a lot of information, but since this is meant to be a summary I’m going to try and get you up to speed as quickly as possible.shootshareFirst, what is “Shoot & Share”? Shoot & Share isn’t a company, but rather a term. A Shoot & Share photographer is someone who charges for their artistic ability up front, and shares the high resolution photos with their clients. Shoot & Share photographers  almost always have a complete set of print and album options they offer. But the client has the choice whether to use them or not. This is in contrast to the non-Shoot & Share model where the photographer charges less up front, and makes a majority of their money by marking up the price on prints and albums. Both are fair and legal models. Shoot & Share should NOT be confused with Shoot & Burn. Shoot & Burn photographers shoot and then just dump all their un-edited non-touched up photos on their client. Shoot & Share photographers give a complete edited, touched up collection of culled photos to their clients. You can read more about Shoot & Share HERE.

Ok understand Shoot & Share? Good. Your next question might “If Shoot & Share isn’t a company who made the website?” Ok so although Shoot & Share isn’t a company that sells a product, the model is highly promoted by a company who has some awesome associated products. They are the ones who provided the site and manage the Facebook Group. Wait a Facebook group? What’s that all about? Ok, so there is a Shoot & Share Facebook group that you can join that has all Shoot & Share photographers in it. This is an awesome group to be in where you can learn, ask questions, and grow as a photographer! You can join it by going HERE.

Whew, we’re getting closer. Hopefully you understand Shoot & Share, get where the website came from, and have joined the big Facebook group. But there’s more. In addition to the big Shoot & Share Facebook group there are smaller local Facebook groups. These groups also have local meetings once a month where you can meet and develop relationships with real in person local photographers. You can check out this MAP to see where the closest group to you is.

passStill tracking? Good. Now on to the company behind it all. As a Shoot & Share photographer you need a tool to share your photos with your clients. This is where PASS comes in. Although you aren’t required to use PASS to be part of the Shoot & Share community, it is probably your best option for sharing. Why? First because it’s clean, beautiful, functional and has a whole range of mobile options. Second, because it’s also FREE! So your next question might be “wait so is everything free? How do these people make money?” Good question. The PASS service is 100% free and functional, but to add some amazing value and convenience (like 10 years of back-up per event, or a “download all” button) it’s just $29 per event. Check out the PASS site here  for more on that.

showitNext is a little service known as Showit. So what’s that? Showit it a drag and drop website editor for quickly and easily creating awesome websites. Showit also offers a feature they call +Sites. The +Sites are add-on sites tied to your main site you can make for you clients, or use for events, or anything else you can think off. Showit is an awesome tool that makes the whole web aspect of your business super easy. It also integrates with the PASS sharing service. Visit the Showit site here.

So who is David Jay? David Jay is the person who along with Todd Watson started this whole thing. David Jay is the CEO of PASS, and Todd is the CEO of Showit.

unitedAnd lastly on our list is UNITED! What’s that you might ask? United is a conference once a year where everybody and everything from all of the above converges in Santa Barbara for what will probably be the most fun week of your year. Check out the UNITED site here.

To summarize. Shoot & Share is a term, and a community, and tied to the PASS and Showit company. You don’t need to use Showit or PASS to be part of Shoot & Share, but I don’t know why you wouldn’t. United is the convergence of all these things at a conference. David Jay, with Todd Watson provide the leadership, but everyone else involved jumps in to find better ways to love and serve. Which is what makes it such a great community to be in.

Got it? Good!

p.s. A few other terms you might hear around the community.

- Showiteer | Someone who uses the Showit web service.

- Showit Robot | The email account that web forms come from on Showit. This usually means a new client lead, so everyone loves the Showit Robot

- Shoot & Share Sherpa | Someone who leads or helps with a local Shoot & Share group.

- Andrew Barlow | Redhead who helps everyone.
